Stamp Duty (Amendment) Bill 2025 Passed

Friday, 30 May 2025

The Legislative Council passed the Stamp Duty (Amendment) Bill 2025 on May 7, implementing a key 2025-26 Budget proposal.

The bill raises the maximum property value eligible for the $100 stamp duty from $3 million to $4 million, easing the financial burden on buyers of lower-valued properties.

The government estimates that approximately 15% of property transactions will benefit from this measure, resulting in an annual revenue reduction of about $400 million.

The legislation was gazetted on May 16. The adjustment, effective since 11 am on February 26, 2025, applies to instruments executed on or after this date, as per the Public Revenue Protection (Stamp Duty) Order 2025.
