Hong Kong Launches Trial Gold Central Clearing System

Wednesday, 15 July 2026

On 7 July 2026, Hong Kong officially launched, on a trial basis, a gold central clearing and settlement system to strengthen its gold trading infrastructure and develop a modern, full-chain ecosystem.

Operated by the wholly government-owned Hong Kong Precious Metals Central Clearing Company, the platform provides efficient and reliable clearing services for bilateral and over-the-counter transactions. Initial initiatives include the first phase of “Delivery Connect with the Shanghai Gold Exchange” and the introduction of a new HAU price ticker for Hong Kong. The Government also plans to expand storage and refining capacity, diversify investment products, and explore supportive tax measures.

This initiative aims to enhance market depth and reinforce Hong Kong’s position as an international gold trading and financial centre.
